Exhibition overview

An echo is a spatialisation of time: a soundwave reflected off a distant surface, resonating between different places and temporalities.

"Echoes" is the first of a new exhibition series of performances, screenings, workshops, and artist talks that unfolds over 10 days. It brings together the artistic practices of Ain Bailey, Hylozoic/Desires (Himali Singh Soin & David Soin Tappeser), Lamin Fofana, Onyeka Igwe, Lafawndah & Friends, Tarek Lakhrissi, Abdullah Miniawy, Christelle Oyiri, Michele Rizzo and caner teker to respond to cultural forms of amnesia caused by persisting imperialist politics and violent histories of displacement. Inspired by historical sources, ancestral rites and mythology, the artists create fictionalised archives linked to their own concepts of identity. Non-linear storytelling, sound and movement are used to rewrite past and present against dominant narratives, conceptualising memory as a bodily condition and reflecting on the de-synchronization of time. The exhibition programme of screenings, artist talks and performances will unfold over the course of ten days at different times, where no one day of the exhibition will be like the other.

You can download the programme overview for all "Echoes" events here.
