Welcome to Open Atelier!

An atelier is a place where artists work, experiment and create new pieces. With the Open Atelier, just such a space – open, accessible and vibrant – has been created at Haus der Kunst.

Here, you have the opportunity to work with a wide variety of materials and media and to bring your own artistic ideas to life. The Open Atelier is a workspace, a production facility and a meeting place at the same time, as well as a venue for exchange, collaborative learning and spontaneous improvisation.

The Open Atelier offers a varied programme with thematic focuses based on current exhibitions and projects. This constantly generates new inspiration and points of reference for creative practice.

Every Wednesday and Thursday from 2 pm to 7 pm, you can drop in without booking and get started straight away. There’s always someone to help you, answer your questions and look after the space. Whether you want to continue working on your own project or simply find inspiration here – tools, materials and technology are available to you free of charge. Here, "Open" also means: access to resources, the shared use of tools and materials, and an understanding of open source and collaborative working.

It’s about more than just DIY: the focus is on sharing knowledge, ideas and experiences. People from different generations and backgrounds come together, exchange ideas and learn from one another. This creates a space that fosters co-design, participation and co-creativity.

The resulting work is regularly shared with the public and further developed. Feedback is incorporated directly into the programme’s design. At the same time, collaborations with various institutions and stakeholders emerge, keeping the programme diverse and vibrant.

Come along and join in – the Open Atelier looks forward to see you!

Open Atelier – Sound

The Open Atelier – Sound follows on the exhibition “Steina: Playback” and focuses on electro-acoustic technology. It’s all about listening to and experimenting with sound using synthesisers, drum machines, effects and unusual microphones.

The space offers opportunities for independent experimentation and artistic work: the focus is on sound design, field recording, the construction and design of electronic instruments, and music production on the computer.

Every Wednesday and Thursday from 2 pm to 7 pm, you can drop in without booking and get started straight away. There is always a member of staff on hand to support you, answer questions and guide you through the space.

If you’d prefer an introduction first as part of a guided workshop, you can attend a Public Workshop – Electronic Music.
