Visit & stay
When does Haus der Kunst close?
Haus der Kunst closes at 8 pm, and at 10 pm on Thursdays. We kindly ask that you leave the exhibitions by 7.45 pm (9.45 pm) at the latest to allow sufficient time for restroom visits or collecting personal items from the lockers. Our staff also appreciates a timely end to their workday.
Are animals allowed at Haus der Kunst?
Pets are generally not permitted inside Haus der Kunst. The only exception is for trained service or assistance dogs.
May I bring food and drinks?
You are welcome to consume your own food and non-alcoholic beverages in the designated lounge area. Eating and drinking are not permitted in the exhibition spaces.
Is alcohol consumption or smoking allowed?
We kindly ask that you refrain from smoking and consuming alcohol anywhere inside the building.
May I take photos or videos at Haus der Kunst?
Private photography is allowed. However, professional or commercial photography and filming require prior authorization.
Is drawing in the exhibitions permitted?
Drawing is explicitly encouraged. Please ensure that you do not obstruct other visitors or interfere with the artworks while doing so.
Groups & Guided Tours
Is registration required for school class visits – even without a guided tour?
Yes. Please register any school class visit in advance, regardless of whether a guided tour is booked, by contacting us at fuehrungen@hausderkunst.de.
Are students allowed to visit the exhibitions without a chaperone?
For students under the age of 13 visiting as a group, we require one accompanying adult for every 10 children.
Arriving by coach bus
If your school class is arriving by private bus, please use the public parking spaces in front of the main entrance.
Disembarking is permitted there, but the bus may not block the area and must leave immediately after unloading passengers.
Can I bring my own guide?
Please contact our visitor services in advance to clarify the details and any requirements for bringing an external guide.
Are guided tours available outside regular opening hours?
In exceptional cases, special guided tours can be arranged outside of regular opening hours. Please get in touch with us as early as possible at fuehrungen@hausderkunst.de to discuss individual options.
Tickets
How can I purchase tickets?
Tickets are available both on-site at our ticket counter and online via our website. For exhibitions with high attendance, we recommend purchasing tickets online to avoid waiting times.
Are there areas accessible without a ticket?
There are. You can visit the following areas without purchasing a ticket:
- Mittelhalle
Is there a discounted admission day like the "1-Euro Sunday" offered by other museums?
No, Haus der Kunst does not offer a “1-Euro Sunday.”
However, we warmly invite you to our Open Haus: On the last Friday of each month, from 4 pm to 10 pm, admission to the exhibitions is free of charge.
How can I purchase gift vouchers or annual passes?
Gift vouchers and annual passes can be purchased at the museum’s ticket counter or online through our website.
How long is the annual pass valid?
The annual pass is valid for 12 months from the date of your first visit.
I lost my annual pass – what should I do?

Facilities & Amenities
Where can I find restrooms and baby-changing facilities?
Restrooms are located at the ends of the long corridors behind the ticket counter. An accessible unisex restroom is available via the right-hand corridor.
Baby-changing tables are also provided in this area.
Are there lockers, and what do they cost?
Two locker rooms are available for storing bags and personal items.
Use requires a €1 deposit. If needed, change is available at the ticket counter.
Can I leave my suitcase?
Please note that we are unable to store suitcases. We appreciate your understanding.
Is there a museum shop?
Yes, the Walther König Museum Shop is located within Haus der Kunst.
Are there parking facilities?
The parking lot behind the building is open 24/7.
Access is via the right side of the building, between Haus der Kunst and the Eisbachwelle.
The following parking fees apply:
- Weekdays (2 hours): 3 €
- Sundays and public holidays (3 hours): 3 €
- Each additional hour (or part thereof): 2 €
- Daily rate: 10 €
Where can I find lost items?
Lost and found items are kept at the ticket counter in the foyer.
If you have lost or found something, please speak to our ticket staff.
Families & Children
Can children visit the exhibitions without an accompanying adult?
Children up to and including 12 years of age may only visit the exhibitions when accompanied by an adult.
Groups of 6 or more children under the age of 13 require a second accompanying adult.
Are strollers available to borrow?
A limited number of strollers are available for loan. Please speak to our staff at the ticket counter.
Where can I park my stroller?
The designated stroller parking area is located at the end of the left-hand corridor.
Accessibility
Is the museum accessible for visitors with disabilities?
Yes, all exhibition spaces and the majority of our facilities are fully accessible.

Accessible restrooms
Restrooms for visitors with disabilities are available at Haus der Kunst. They are easily accessible and appropriately equipped.
Are folding chairs available for the exhibition visit?
Yes, folding chairs are available free of charge. Please speak to our gallery staff or inquire at the ticket counter.
Can I borrow a wheelchair?
Yes, a limited number of wheelchairs are available. Our staff at the ticket counter or in the galleries will be happy to assist you.
General Information
What are the opening hours?
• Monday, Wednesday, Friday to Sunday: 10 am – 8 pm
• Thursday: 10 am – 10 pm
• Tuesday: closed
Please note: While the Goldene Bar inside the building may remain open longer, exhibition spaces close punctually at 8 pm (10 pm on Thursdays).
Don’t forget to empty your locker before closing time.
Is Haus der Kunst a public institution?
Haus der Kunst is a public institution of the Free State of Bavaria and is operated by the non-profit Haus der Kunst München Foundation.
How large is the museum?
Haus der Kunst covers approximately 6.000 square meters, divided into several rooms, halls, and thematic sections.
How do I get to Haus der Kunst?
You can reach us easily by public transport (bus, subway, suburban train, tram) or by car.

Can I sell an artwork to the museum?
Haus der Kunst does not have a permanent collection and therefore does not acquire artworks. We appreciate your understanding.
