The Mobile Bookshelf is many things: a movable object, a display and a gathering place. It seeks to create possibilities for exchange, learning and unlearning. It brings people together in various locations within Haus der Kunst and beyond, opening up spaces for conversation, new perspectives and shared reflection. It brings together books, zines, artists’ publications and other independent publication formats.

During Haus der Kunst’s opening hours, the Mobile Bookshelf is accessible free of charge in the Atelier.

The Mobile Bookshelf is accompanied by the Open Salon, a continually evolving programme of workshops, talks and other formats for discourse and gathering. It can be understood as a hybrid “third place” where Haus der Kunst’s selfunderstanding is practised and communicated through practice-oriented approaches.

Open Salon

Open Salon understands openness as an ongoing practice and invites everyone to understand social issues from different perspectives and to question established narratives. The focus is on queerfeminist, antiracist and powercritical perspectives, as well as activist and community-based forms of knowledge and its mediation. This gives way to a wide variety of spaces in which many various voices and experiences can be made visible and heard. For this event, artists, activists and educators are invited to present their working practices, publications and related workshops in spaces close to the public.
