TUNE. Joint listening of FAVN (Free admission)
Florian Hecker (1975, Augsburg) works with synthetic sound, the listening process, and the audience's auditory experience, to create installations and performances. At stake in the work is how sound is received, processed, and transformed by the listening body, inviting audiences to engage with composite sonic environments that question the nature of perception and listening itself.
For TUNE, Hecker presents FAVN, a thirteen-channel sound piece in the Westgalerie, from 4. – 14.9.26, a live performance on Friday 11.9., and a roundtable discussion on Saturday 12.9., to explore the rich ideas his work explores and generates, followed by an accompanied listening o FAVN.
On Friday, 11.9., Hecker performs new work in relation to his latest release Natural Selection live. The tracks connect to a cluster of queries the artist has been exploring over the last few years: experiments related to analysis and resynthesis of sound, human perception, and synthetic cognition. They were written in parallel with a range of recent multi-disciplinary inquiries — 2022's exhibition TEMPLEXTURES, which examined sound as an immaterial situated between machine languages and sensual encounter, at the fringes of measurability and the unnameable in degrees of perceptual resolution hitherto inaccessible to the ear; 2021's diffusion of olfactory sonics and evaluation of the construction of space, RESYNTHESIZERS; and INSPECTION (Maida Vale Project), an algorithmic reconstruction of acoustic material that uses human hearing to parse its vital timbral characteristics.
TUNE 2026 is supported by Unitel Musikstiftung.
