Info

“Soy Energía” is Sandra Vásquez de la Horra's first institutional retrospective exhibition in Europe and is dedicated to her experimental practice. Jana Baumann, the curator of the exhibition, will guide visitors through the exhibition in conversation with Raphael Fonseca, curator of the artist's current retrospective exhibition in the USA and Latin America, The Awake Volcanoes. The Chilean artist combines transnational and indigenous perspectives in her multidisciplinary artistic practice. Her oeuvre, which consists primarily of drawings and paintings, but also includes films and performances, encompasses complex events, stories, rituals, and beliefs rooted in both her upbringing in Chile and her many years living in Germany. During the tour, you will learn more about the artist's working methods, her influences and areas of interest, and the creation of the exhibition.

Raphael Fonseca is Curator and head of the department of Modern and Contemporary Latin American Art at the Denver Art Museum. He is a researcher interested in the intersections of art history, fiction, resilience, pleasure, and education, always through a transgeographical perspective. A Brazilian-born curator and writer, he is the curator of Counterpublic 2026 and the Taiwan Pavilion at the 2026 Venice Biennale. He is also one of the curators of the 2027 edition of Sequences, a visual arts biennial happening in Reykjavik, Iceland. He curated "The Awake Volcanoes", the survey exhibition of Sandra Vásquez de La Horra that travelled between Denver, USA; Santiago, Chile; Buenos Aires, Argentina; and Los Angeles, USA, between 2024 and 2026. He worked as the chief curator of the 14th Mercosur Biennial, which happened in Porto Alegre, Brazil, in 2025, and also as one of the co-curators at the 22nd SESC_Videobrasil Biennial that happens at the SESC 24 de Maio, in São Paulo, Brazil, in 2023.

As Talks & Tours is limited to 40 people, we kindly ask you to pick up a free ticket at the box office on the day of the event.
