Info

Sarah Friend is an artist and software developer. With great concern for questions of accessibility, she makes site-specific works for platforms and protocols reflecting on trust, intimacy, and cooperation. Working in the blockchain industry for many years, Friend is known for unconventional NFT projects that examine how systems incentivise human behaviour. Picking apart the rational self-interested “homo economicus” as an ideal of the human, her work delves into the complexity of the deeply-rooted assumption that automation is based on rational, coherence-based thinking. For Haus der Kunst München, Friend develops her own version of Echoes – based on the blockchain – engaging the public in a playful performance of exchange.

Please keep your digital Echoe. Just like the actual sound echo, it will come back as something else in a future iteration of Echoes.

The conversation takes place between Sarah Friend and the two curators Sarah Johanna Theurer and Teresa Retzer.

This project is developed in the context of our participation in the WAC-Fellowship (Web3 for Arts and Culture) offered by We Are Museums, LAL ART and the Tezos Foundation. It is part of ECHOES, a live programme of performances. It takes place over the three days of 21-23.7.23.

With the ECHOES pass for 35 € you have free access to the events of the live exhibition on all three days. It is available at the museum box office and online. You can pick up your ECHOES pass at the Haus der Kunst box office on your first visit to ECHOES by presenting your online ticket. So please plan some extra time for this.

With the ECHOES Pass for Saturday, 22.7.23, you can participate in the following events:
2 pm: Tiara Roxanne. Performance. “(De)Coding the Body”
4 pm: Sarah Friend. Artist Talk
7 pm: Angela Goh. Performance. “Body Loss“
8.15 pm: DEBIT. Concert
