A studio is a place where artists work, experiment and produce new works. The Open Atelier has created just such a space at the Haus der Kunst.

Here, you have the opportunity to try out a wide variety of materials, techniques and media, and to bring your own artistic ideas to life. The Open Atelier serves as a workspace, a production facility and a meeting place, as well as a venue for exchange, collaborative learning and spontaneous improvisation. The Open Atelier offers a varied programme with thematic focuses based on current exhibitions and projects. This constantly generates fresh inspiration and points of reference for creative practice.

From mid-September 2026, the Open Atelier will become the working space for the Museo Aero Solar. The Museo Aero Solar is both a sculpture and a flying museum. Its shell consists of plastic bags glued together and has been growing continuously for many years through collective participation. Each new iteration expands the existing Museo Aero Solar and, through the involvement of participants, alters its form, dimensions and meaning.

The plastic bags collected during the exhibition “Tomás Saraceno in collaboration. Ancestral Futures” form the basis for working together on the Museo Aero Solar in the Open Atelier. In addition, the Open Atelier offers the opportunity to design and test other flying objects such as kites or other lightweight structures.

You can drop in free of charge and without registering, and get involved straight away. There’s always a member of staff on hand to help you, answer any questions and look after the space. Come along and join in – the Open Atelier looks forward to seeing you!
