New Year’s Resolution #1 Emerging from hibernation, sound echoes hitting you at a performance in the Haus der Kunst and feeling the first sensations of spring.
“Echoes” is a series of performances and time-based media. The artistic practices brought together in this live exhibition respond to cultural forms of amnesia caused by persisting imperialist politics and violent histories of displacement.

New Year’s Resolution #2 Trying to catch the fog of Fujiko Nakaya’s sculptures surrounding Haus der Kunst, sharing photos with your friends, and finally marvel at the uniqueness of snowflakes in the exhibition room.
Fujiko Nakaya’s immersive fog artworks defy traditional conventions of sculpture by generating temporary, borderless transformations that physically engage with the public. Driven by early ecological concerns, Nakaya’s work deals with water and air, mediums that have particular resonance in the face of the climate crisis.
Dumb Type 6.5—11.9.2022
New Year’s Resolution #3 Attending a concert of twisted turntables while questioning the incessant data flood of the consumer society and your own media consumption.
The artist collective Dumb Type criticises a consumer society that is concurrently rendered mute or “dumb” through the perpetual deluge of data and technology. One of their installations lets visitors immerse themselves in the dizzying banality of an AI-generated word cluster.

New Year’s Resolution #4 Receiving electromagnetic waves of Carsten Nicolai's installation with the help of the historic antenna on the rooftop of Haus der Kunst, perceiving the body as a magnetic field.
Taking inspiration from the Zen gardens of Japan, said to resemble the universe in miniature and allow the gardener to observe patterns and abstract language in nature, Carsten Nicolai’s visual and sonic media installation sets the scene for chance compositions to emerge.

New Year’s Resolution #5 Letting the text passages from Tony Cokes' new commission, focusing on moments the history of Munich between 1937, 1972 and nowadays, inspire you to reflect on the interplay between past, present, and future.
For more than three decades, Tony Cokes has explored the political ideologies of media and pop culture and its impact on society. Taking the historical connection between the two closely located exhibition sites Haus der Kunst and Kunstverein München as a point for departure, Tony Cokes will present newly commissioned works that span both institutions.

New Year’s Resolution #6 Take part in an entrancing and strange ritual with animal masks and finding yourself in the mirrors of Joan Jonas.
Joan Jonas has been pushing the boundaries of visual art throughout her life-long practice comprising sculpture, performance and video. The exhibition highlights her revolutionary understanding of space and time, whilst raising fundamental questions about bodies, animals, politics and extinction.
