Info
The September edition of TUNE is dedicated to the New York City based musician, mystic and laughter meditation practitioner Laraaji.
He began playing music on the streets in the 1970s, improvising trance-inducing jams on a modified autoharp processed through various electronic effects. Brian Eno saw him playing one night in Washington Square Park and invited him to record an album for his seminal Ambient series Ambient 3: Day Of Radiance, released 1980.
In recent years his work has been celebrated extensively, with reissues of his wide-ranging back catalogue on labels including Numero Group, Glitterbeat and Leaving Records.
In 2022 Laraaji was commissioned by Cyprien Gaillard to create an ethereal, ambient soundscape for his reactivation of Jacques Monestier’s Le Défenseur du Temps (1979), presented at Lafayette Anticipations and Palais de Tokyo.
Just as Gaillard explores a psychedelic space in his work, the experience of Laraaji’s sound encourages a form of transcendence and expanded consciousness, inviting the listener into a state of meditative awareness that resonates with Gaillard’s themes of time, decay, and renewal. Thus, the TUNE events tie in with Cyprien Gaillard’s exhibition “Wassermusik”, on view at Haus der Kunst from 17.10.25.
On the first evening, the performance will be inspired by his aforementioned classic album Ambient 3: Day of Radiance (1980). For the second evening, Laraaji will present two deeply immersive performances, a laughter workshop for children and adults, and an artist talk.
The participation in the artist talk is free of charge. No registration is required.
