The artist and filmmaker Basim Magdy (b. 1977 in Egypt) lives and works in Switzerland. His work PINGPINPOOLPONG, or how I learned to laugh at failure, which he developed for the Art Block of the South London Gallery in 2018, is currently on view in the exhibition “For Children. Art Stories since 1968.” Together with children, he devised the rules for this table-tennis-like game, through which one can learn what is perhaps one of life’s most important skills: failing with ease.
A poetic and often humorous examination of complex relationships and the major questions of life runs through Magdy’s entire body of work, which includes installations as well as photography, painting, and film.
With a special focus on his film works, Basim Magdy will offer insights into his artistic practice and present a selection of his films as part of Open Haus, in conversation with curator Lydia Korndörfer.
Admission is free. No registration is required.
