Nostralgia expands space and time through subtle interventions at the often overlooked thresholds of the building. Beginning at the staff entrance, Gülbin Ünlü invites visitors to explore the institution through inaccessible yet present doors. It’s an invitation to traverse the space without a fixed destination to engage in the act of allowing encounters. The work becomes a silent choreography of immobility, exploring the latent potential of spaces activated through liveness.

Each activation is shaped through distinct forms, converging to awaken the portals Ünlü has traced across Haus der Kunst.  Speculative futures begin to take shape gently, insistently from the building’s interior into the world beyond. They move through thresholds both visible and invisible: from inside to outside, from shades of gray to full spectrums, from buried histories to an unstable terrain of collective becoming.

Taking place on 8.5.25, the Soft Opening of Nostralgia marks the beginning of this process, unfolding throughout the entire duration of the commission. As part of Open Haus held every last Friday of the month Ünlü collaborates with TAF (Turkish-Armenian Friendship) to activate the portals through sound, movement, and presence, unfolding across a series of performative events.

The Soft Opening is a prelude a quiet stirring that begins behind closed doors and gradually makes its way outward, inviting visitors to attune themselves to subtle shifts and open-ended gestures. TAF moves in between: between languages, scenes, and systems. They seek not resolution, but resonance. While Gülbin Ünlü reimagines the sealed doors of Haus der Kunst as entrances to parallel realities, each activation becomes a prophecy of these other worlds in becoming. Step through.
