What do lost objects tell us about the people they once belonged to, and about the place where they were found? In “Tao Schirrmacher’s Collection. Eisbach Treasures”, Tao Schirrmacher – free spirit, graphic designer, diver and surfer – brings together objects recovered from the Munich Eisbach. The collection ranges from jewellery and car keys to cameras, smartphones and other personal, sometimes rather unusual belongings.
Together with Tao Schirrmacher and Sabine Brantl, curator of the exhibition, the group will first explore “Eisbach Treasures” in the Archiv Galerie. Selected objects and the stories behind them take centre stage. How were they found, what can they tell us about their origins, and how did lost objects become part of an archive of urban life over the years? Tao offers personal insights into the development of his collection and shares stories of particular finds and the memories connected to them.
The group then leaves Haus der Kunst and heads into the English Garden and towards the Eisbach with Tao. What appears in the exhibition as a hidden archive of the city can be followed back to its place of origin. Tao talks about his long-standing connection to Munich’s surfing scene, diving and the places where he recovered the objects.
The walk thus leads from the exhibition back to the place where the collection began. It also offers an opportunity to meet Tao, speak with him and find out more about his project “Lost and Drowned” and his relationship with the Eisbach.
A valid Haus Club membership card or annual pass must be shown on the day of the event. Places are limited.
