Info
In conjunction with the exhibition “KI$$ KI$$” at Haus der Kunst we are presenting a selection of Shu Lea Cheang’s seminal films at Theatiner Kino.
The evening on 21.6.25 features the experimental short Sex Fish (1993) followed by Fresh Kill (1994), Cheang’s debut feature which also serves as a starting point for her survey exhibition at Haus der Kunst. The “eco-cyber-noia” film is an inventive critique of toxic capitalism and digital surveillance.
Programme on Saturday, 21.6.25, 8 pm
followed by a discussion between Julia Fuhr Mann (Filmmaker), Julia Weigl (MUNICH INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL) and Sarah Johanna Theurer (Haus der Kunst München).
Sex Fish (1993, 6 min)
An erotic lesbian video involving swimming upstream, female power, and fish love. Made as a collaboration under the name E.T. (Ela Troyano) Baby (Jane Castle) Maniac (Cheang).
Fresh Kill (1994, 80 min, OV)
Shu Lea Cheang’s debut feature is a queer eco-thriller set in a near-future New York, where a queer couple uncovers a corporate conspiracy involving environmental contamination and media manipulation. With their daughter mysteriously vanished after eating radioactive sushi, the couple teams up with hackers and activists to expose the sinister workings of the GX Corporation. Fresh Kill fuses cyberpunk, satire, and activism into a bold critique of toxic capitalism and digital surveillance.
Tickets will soon be available on the Theatiner Filmkunst website.
The screenings are organised in collaboration with MUNICH INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL. The installation is supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Chinese Republic (Taiwan).
