Haus der Kunst is on the move! Inspired by the Argentine artist Tomás Saraceno, we are building and designing experimental flying objects and kites from materials such as old plastic bags, paper and fabric, which we will then set in motion using wind, sunlight and thermal currents on the KiKS Festival site.

The Kinder-Kultur-Sommer, KiKS, has been running since 2007. KiKS provides a public space for cultural activities aimed at, and – above all – cultural productions created by children and young people, making them more visible.

The KiKS year always begins in January with a public call to find as many partners as possible who can bring KiKS to life with their activities. The group of organisers also contributes significantly to the success of the event with their own offerings and acts as a point of contact for anyone wishing to get involved. In this way, KiKS is created in collaboration with over 100 partner organisations and well over 500 children and young people. It is a network that operates on behalf of and in cooperation with the departments responsible for cultural education (Department of Social Affairs, Department of Culture, Department of Education and Sport).

KiKS consists of three components: it kicks off with ‘KiKS on the Move’, featuring events across the city. This is followed by the KiKS Festival at the Alte Messe, centred around ‘Schneckenplatz’ on the Theresienhöhe. There, participants play, hammer, play sports, film, research, print, program and much more. The KiKS-Blende, the “reflective” online magazine, is the third component of KiKS.

KiKS also sees itself as a network where cultural education practitioners come together to advance a shared vision: to showcase the significance of cultural practice among children and young people in all its facets and bring it to life!
