Joanne Robertson is a British musician, painter and poet living in Glasgow. She often starts from spontaneous moments of expression and teases them out into cascading waves of feeling, forming a tapestry where pain and joy coexist. She collaborates often, most recently with Dean Blunt on Black Metal 2 and with Sidsel Meineche Hansen on Alien Baby, both released in 2021.
In 2022 she showed a series of oil paintings called Night at Berlin’s Sandy Brown gallery. With Byron Coley, she has published poetry collections with Tenderbooks and Bad Taste Press.
2023’s diaristic Blue Car is a collection from her archive of unreleased solo recordings. Like 2020’s Painting Stupid Girls, these songs are attempts to capture a feeling in the moment it arrives, and find its shape as it takes root in the heart.
The work of London artist Sidsel Meineche Hansen varies in medium and form, focusing on the industrial complex that connects virtual and robotic bodies with human labor in the pharmaceutical, pornographic, and tech industries. Her work also includes musical collaborations with musician Nkisi and the poet Lydia Lunch.
Oliver Coates is known for his intimate processed cello playing and his exploratory work with improvisatory music. He is an accomplished film composer, with credits for the the 2022 Cannes selections The Stranger and Aftersun, creating an often minimal sound that he says reflects “the vivid glow of memory.”
Kool Music is the project of artist Jasper Baydala. Playing solo country-style guitar influenced by Japanese court music and Hawaiian slack-key, his nonlinear performances consist of carefully built layers of meditative yet slightly dissonant sounds.
