Info

The presence of the United States in Bavaria’s capital has always been diverse. Since the end of World War II, the U.S. has shaped not only Munich’s military-political landscape but has also left a lasting social and cultural impact – ranging from the former American Forces Network (AFN) radio station, which revolutionized Munich’s broadcasting scene, to cultural institutions like the Amerikahaus, which remains dedicated to German-American relations to this day.

As part of the series “Zero Hour? How We Became Who We Are. A Programme on the Postwar Era in Munich”, the Amerikahaus invites you to a guided walk offering unique insights into the city’s transatlantic history and present.

The walk begins at the Archiv Galerie of Haus der Kunst, where Sabine Brantl, Head of the Archive, provides a brief overview of the postwar period. From there, the route leads to key sites of German-American history in Munich, featuring conversations with experts and contemporary witnesses. Along the way, short breaks offer the opportunity to enjoy culinary delights. The walk concludes at the Amerikahaus.
