Info

This exhibition tour provides a comprehensive insight into the artistic work of Meredith Monk. Alongside music theater scholar Marie-Anne Kohl and curator Anna Schneider, you'll engage in playful experiments to learn more about Monk's unique composition methods and performance practices, allowing you to immerse yourself in the “in the bone quality” of Monk's music.

Marie-Anne Kohl is a lecturer at the Institute of Musicology and Interpretation Research at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. She studied musicology, gender studies, and journalism and communication studies in Berlin, completing her doctorate on Meredith Monk's music-theatrical works within the artistic landscape of Downtown New York in the 1960s and 1970s, exploring vocal performance art as a feminist practice.

Driven by a fundamental interest in the intersections of artistic, academic, and socially engaged practices, she works extensively across interdisciplinary fields such as music and gender, decolonization, performance, and voice. Currently, her habilitation project focuses on understanding talent shows as “glocal” music theater.
