Stefano Battaglia Trio

Concert 01.02.13, 8 pm

Italian pianist Stefano Battaglia is a jazz musician whose canvas is bigger than jazz. A postmodernist with classical priorities, he draws inspiration from all corners of the historical-cultural field. His most recent concern is “a new harmonic balance between archaic, modal pre-tonal chants and dances, hymns, and abstract texture”. This approach finds expression on his newest album “Songways”, in compositions referencing legendary, mythical and/or visionary locations, from Aristophanes’ city of birds to Dante’s sixth  circle of Hell, from Italo Calvino’s invisible cities to the Tower of Babel.
