Matthew Barney in conversation with Okwui Enwezor

On the occasion of the opening of his major exhibition at Haus der Kunst and the European premiere of the film "River of Fundament" at the Bayerische Staatsoper, Matthew Barney shared the stage with Okwui Enwezor (director, Haus der Kunst) in a public conversation. The exhibition "Matthew Barney: River of Fundament" represents the culmination of a seven-year collaboration between the artist and composer Jonathan Bepler; the two have developed a Gesamtkunstwerk based on Norman Mailer's novel "Ancient Evenings". Enwezor, curator of the exhibition, engaged in dialogue with Barney about the origins and development of the work – which comprises several performances, a five-hour epic symphonic film, fourteen large new sculptures, and numerous drawings and photographs – as well as about his collaboration with Bepler and the exhibition's design and installation. The event offered the unique opportunity to gain insight into the work of one of the most innovative artists of our time.
