In an interview with Okwui Enwezor, Sabine Breitwieser, director of the Museum der Moderne in Salzburg, provides insight into her curatorial practice and the professional development of curators and museum directors in general.

After completing her law degree in 1988, Sabine Breitwieser became the founding director of the Generali Foundation, a position she held until 2007. In 2005, Haus der Kunst devoted an exhibition, "Occupying Space", to the renown Conceptual Art collection that was established during her directorship. Breitwieser was co-curator of the International Liverpool Biennial in 2003 and 2004 and, from 2003 until 2008, university consultant of the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. From 2010 to 2013 Breitwieser worked as chief curator of media and performance art at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. She has been the director of the Museum der Moderne in Salzburg since autumn 2013.
