As part of the exhibition "Theaster Gates. Black Chapel", Theaster Gates exhibits the record collection of athlete and music lover Jesse Owens in the Archive Gallery at Haus der Kunst. Jesse Owens grew up in times of strict racial segregation in the United States. At the Olympic Games in Berlin in 1936, this exceptional athlete won several gold medals under the watchful eye of Adolf Hitler. The record collection includes over 1.800 iconic soul, blues, jazz and funk albums from the 1950s-80s, out of which DJ Jay Scarlett selected a few highlights for our soundtrack.
