About Jenna Sutela

Jenna Sutela (*1983, Turku, Finnland) works with words, sounds, and other living media, such as Bacillus subtilis nattō bacteria and the “many-headed” slime mold Physarum polycephalum. Her audiovisual pieces, sculptures, and performances seek to identify and react to precarious social and material moments, often in relation to technology.  

Sutelas works have been shown internationally at Liverpool Biennial (2021); Shanghai Biennale (2021); Jameel Arts Centre, Dubai (2021); Kunsthall Trondheim (solo, 2020); ZKM, Karlsruhe (2020); Moderna Museet (2019); Serpentine Galleries (2019); Guggenheim Bilbao (2018); Kiasma, Helsinki (2017), amongst others.    

She was a Visiting Artist at The MIT Center for Art, Science & Technology (CAST) in 2019-21. Important publications by Sutela include NO NO NSE NSE, ed. Kunsthall Trondheim, Serpentine Galleries and Koenig Books (2020); nimiia vibié, PAN Records 104 (2019) and Orgs: From Slime Mold to Silicon Valley and Beyond, Garret Publications (2017).
