Event overview

In 2018, journalist Elke Amberg interviewed nine contemporary witnesses from the Munich lesbian and women's scene for the Forum Queeres Archiv München and the Munich City Archive. Selected excerpts from these interviews can be heard in the exhibition at Haus der Kunst. During the guided tour, Elke Amberg will present her interview project and go into the social and political background.

The contemporary witnesses became central pioneers of the Munich lesbian and women's movement and continue to shape it today. Their personal coming-out is linked to their struggles for women's spaces and women's rights in the repressive male society of the time, which was characterised by a lack of rights, contempt for women, invisibility and violence. The social upheaval of the 1970s/80s is the foil for her lesbian identity development and her unwavering quest to lead a self-determined and also professionally independent woman's life.
