Event overview

The Japanese artist Fujiko Nakaya (born 1933) works at the interface between art and science, nature and technology. She creates fog sculptures from pure water that surround the Haus der Kunst from the outside and can be experienced in the exhibition space itself. Her fog sculptures challenge traditional notions of sculpture because they change at every moment depending on temperature, wind and atmosphere.

Using the artist's fog sculptures, video installations and drawings, we interactively convey knowledge about technological and natural processes in the family tour. Above all, however, we will be guided – in the truest sense of the word – through Nakaya's works. Children and adults alike are invited to engage in the sensual experience of the works. The tour includes a short practical part with a drawing exercise.

"Children have fun playing hide-and-seek in it, enjoying the feel of the fog fresh on their skin, taking fright as they encounter the sudden loss of visibility. These fog sculptures are not merely to be viewed from outside as fanciful landscapes, but can be experienced as physical presences to conjoin and converse with from the inside." (Fujiko Nakaya)
