Action Week: Digital Art Education at Haus der Kunst to the exhibition "Phyllida Barlow. frontier"

The program for the action week of July 12-18, 2021, is all about digital, creative, and innovative communication. The program was developed by students at the Institute for Art Education at the Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich. All events take place online and are free of charge.

1. Body Art - A Performative Art Experience

Would you like to experience art with your body? Then immerse yourself in the colorful art of Phyllida Barlow with us. We are hosting an online workshop with a performative focus. Together we find inspiration in Barlow’s works and create new sculptures using our own bodies and everyday objects.

2. Recycle your art!

Are upcycling and sustainability things you care about?
We want to discover if our own artworks and ideas can also be recycled.
Participate in this workshop and become part of the “ARTCYCLE!”
Inspired by Phyllida Barlow’s art, we will create an art chain together and turn the old into something new! We will create an open art space, including a digital library of ideas and inspiration for everyone, and dedicate ourselves to the topic of sustainability in various ways.

3. Experience Art and Curating. Three-dimensional and sustainable design with everyday objects

Get creative with us and make small or large sculptures in the online workshop using cardboard, paper, string, and Tetra Pack containers. Inspired by the artist Phyllida Barlow, we will create individual sculptures out of ordinary household items. Once finished, you will photograph your work. Using all the sculpture photos from the workshop participant, we will create a virtual exhibition that we design and curate together.

Date for the two-part online workshop: Saturday, July 17, 2021, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

4. Society and Politics in the Work of Phyllida Barlow - An Exchange
For school classes - upper level

What significance do Phyllida Barlow’s sculptures have beyond their artistic claims? How are they anchored in their temporal history and society? By exploring select works, we immerse ourselves in the artist’s world. What inspired her? In our online workshop, we look at select artworks and discuss art, society, and politics in the context of contemporary society and the world. We will discuss and interact with each other.

Wednesday, July 14, 2021. The workshop will run for 1-1.5 hours. Possible starting time between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m.)
