Workshops
For children from 6 – 10 years and 11 – 14 years.
In a collective discussion with an artist, we investigate selected artworks of a current exhibition. After this, the focus is on one's own artistic designs. In our studios, you explore and transform your impressions: through drawing, painting, sculpting, and experimenting with new materials and techniques - your own work emerges.
Workshops are also offered in parallel for both age groups, so siblings can take part at the same time.

You can book our workshops for a private group or a children's birthday.
Guided playing tours
The topics and questions from the group itself are the focus during a guided playing tour of a current exhibition. We draw, paint and do crafts right in front of the works of art. Active exploration, observation and analysis alternate with personal creative work.

FAQs – Frequently Asked Questions
Dear Parents,
Below you will find the most frequently asked questions, and their answers, regarding "Children's Birthday Parties in the Haus der Kunst."
What activities take place during a birthday party workshop?
The event begins with the children’s being greeted by an art instructor in the foyer. When all jackets have been stored in the cloakroom, the children are first given a short tour of the studio spaces. The group then visits one of our current exhibitions, where they are introduced to selected works and are able to gather impressions they can put to use in the workshop that follows. In the meantime, parents will be able to set up the birthday table. (Unfortunately, because of smoke detectors in the rooms, the use of birthday candles, sparklers and the like is not permitted.)
Back in the studios, the creative energy of the young birthday guests is in demand. The experienced art instructor helps each child realize his or her idea using the various materials at hand and to create an artwork to take home. Smocks are available, but please remember to dress your child in appropriate clothing (paint alert!).
Are we allowed to serve cake and refreshments?
Cake and refreshments are most certainly permitted. Please remember to also bring cutlery and tableware. (During the children's tour through the exhibition, you will have about 30 minutes to set things up.) As an alternative, you may also order cake and refreshments from our museum café. Contact: Goldene Bar, Leonie Rainer, Telephone: 0172 8607705
Are parents allowed to participate?
Most children want to celebrate their birthday parties (ca. 30-40 minutes after the event begins) with their parents. However, during the exhibition tour and the following workshop, we suggest entrusting the children to our art instructor so that they may optimally utilize their creativity and realize their ideas.
When may the birthday child unpack his presents?
The gifts may certainly be opened during the party. We suggest doing this either at the beginning of the event or during the celebration itself. Please remember, however, that this will leave less time for the exhibition visit and workshop activities.
May we continue celebrating in the rooms after the event?
For insurance reasons, use of the studio spaces ends when the event is over. The event lasts two and a half hours. Upon prior agreement with the director of the children and youth program, an extension of this period is possible (as is a booking of three hours or more).
When can we celebrate children's birthdays in the Haus der Kunst?
Children's birthdays can be celebrated with us every day – Monday through Sunday, including holidays. We do, however, recommend booking early for weekend celebrations. Regardless of when you celebrate, the price is the same.
What does a children's birthday party cost in the Haus der Kunst?
Cost: 90 € cash fee for the art instructor (2.5 hrs.);
5 € per child at the admissions desk (number of participants increasing with the children's age, maximum 15).
Is parking available? How can I reach the Haus der Kunst with public transportation?
U-Bahn: U4/U5 to Lehel, then take the No. 18 tram to Nationalmuseum/Haus der Kunst;
Bus: Museum line No. 100, Stop: Königinstraße;
Car: Parking spaces (subject to a fee) are available behind the building. You may park in front of the Haus der Kunst to unload food and refreshments.
What do I do if we are running late or I have to cancel at short notice?
If you need to cancel at short notice and cannot reach us by phone, please contact the art instructor, whose number is listed on your booking confirmation. Cancelation is free up to 24 hours prior to the scheduled event; after this you will be charged a cancellation fee of 50 €. In general, we ask you and your guests to please be in the foyer on time.
If you and your group are running late for the event, please let us know by calling the Haus der Kunst admissions desk (089 21127 110 or 089 21127 116).
We wish you and your child an exciting and entertaining birthday party!
