Exhibition Documentation 1946—1949

Here you will find an overview of exhibitions that took place in the nearly undamaged former "House of German Art" as of 1946. The exhibition "The Youth Book", which presented more than 4,000 children's books from 14 countries, was the first international event staged by the institution after the war. This was followed by other exhibitions like "Der Blaue Reiter" [The Blue Rider], which included works by formerly banned artists like Wassily Kandinsky, Paul Klee, Henri Matisse, and others. The conscious "denazification" of the building, which now carried the neutral name "Haus der Kunst" [House of Art], had thus begun.
