Schörghuber Unternehmensgruppe

Private commitment

It was an interest in art that animated Josef Schörghuber to discreetly, yet enduringly, commit himself to helping the Haus der Kunst continue its work. The promise he made in 1988 to provide the organization with generous support for at least ten years contributed a great deal towards maintaining this cultural institution in Munich. His outstanding commitment was the trigger for, and significant aspect of, the private-public partnership that the partners of Haus der Kunst embody to this day: the Schörghuber Unternehmensgruppe, the Gesellschaft der Freunde der Stiftung Haus der Kunst München e.V. and the Ausstellungsleitung Große Kunstausstellung München e.V., together with the State of Bavaria.

Josef Schörghuber, himself one of the major German art collectors, was thereby one of the leading figures and companies to have continuously supported Haus der Kunst. His son Stefan, together with his wife Alexandra, renewed this commitment following the death of Josef Schörghuber. Alexandra Schörghuber continued the commitment of the Schörghuber Unternehmensgruppe following the sudden death of Stefan Schörghuber at the end of 2008.
