Jan Garbarek and The Hilliard Ensemble

Concert 11.02.13, 8 pm

Concert at the Allerheiligen-Hofkirche, Residenz, Munich

A twentieth anniversary concert by one of ECM’s most inspired amalgamations concludes the Haus der Kunst concert series. The combination of Jan Garbarek’s saxophones and the vocal blend of the Hilliard Ensemble’s voices has produced consistently inventive music since 1993. This is music of great emotional power. Drawing upon repertoire from their "Officium", "Mnemosyne", and "Officium Novum" collections, Garbarek and the Hilliard singers explore music ancient and modern. From an improvisational perspective, Officium remains an exceptionally pure context in which to experience Garbarek’s creativity. He approaches this music freely each night, improvising with the soloists, creating roving counterpoint, weaving in and of the web of vocal texture, and helping to shape what England’s "Evening Standard" called “some of the most beautiful acoustic music ever made."
