Paper Weight — Genre-defining Magazines 2000 to Now / Sang Bleu

Video

"Sang Bleu" channels co-founders Maxime Büchi and Jeanne-Salomé Rochat’s fascination with body modification, fetish, and tattoos through the lenses of art, culture, and fashion. Expanding on and departing from the specific premise in unexpected ways, the result is content that has an interest and relevance well beyond the increasingly mainstream vocabulary of "tattoo culture." Its high production value and relaxed publication schedule places the incredibly thick publication somewhere between a magazine and an art book — an object as fetishistic when it comes to its own printed medium as its protagonists are regarding the subcultures they inhabit. "Sang Bleu" temporarily retired its print production with its most recent issue in late 2012, but continues to work on projects such as film screenings and exhibitions. Sang Bleu presents a scattered fashion show composed of films, images, and objects that illuminate a chain of production of which the magazine is just one part.
